Design Intent & Architectural Monograph
The Silo transforms a derelict waterfront industrial monument into a contemporary cultural destination. Rather than obliterating the historic grit of the original concrete silos, our intervention cuts precise sculptural apertures through the cylindrical chambers to channel dramatic shafts of daylight into public performance volumes.
A lightweight steel and glass crystalline lantern crowns the highest silo, accommodating a panoramic public observatory and restaurant overlooking the harbor. Advanced acoustic dampening treatments concealed behind blackened steel mesh allow orchestral symphonies and contemporary installations to coexist within raw concrete drums.
